Syzygium sp. ‘Irian’ (also known as Syzygium sp. ‘Irian Jaya’ or Syzygium sp. ‘Papua’) is a rare, currently undescribed species in the Myrtaceae family. Originating from the dense rainforests of New Guinea (Indonesian Papua/Irian Jaya), it is prized by rare plant collectors for its prehistoric look and colorful new growth.
Known for exceptionally large, elongated leaves that can reach 40–60 cm in length. The leaves are stiff, leathery, and feature a deep green color with a prominent, sunken midrib. It typically grows as a small to medium-sized tree in the understory. In cultivation, it remains a slow-growing, upright shrub.
