Musa velutina
From: $5.00
Musa velutina, popularly known as the Pink Velvet Banana or Hairy Banana, is a small, highly ornamental wild banana species. Native to Assam and the eastern Himalayas, it is famous for being one of the few bananas that can reliably flower and fruit within its first year of growth, even when kept as a houseplant.
In a rare botanical phenomenon, the fruits naturally peel themselves (dehisce) by splitting open lengthwise when they reach full maturity, revealing a white, seedy pulp. The white flesh is creamy and remarkably sweet and tangy, often described as having a better flavor than many commercial varieties.
