Musa ingens
From: $15.00
Musa ingens, commonly known as the Giant Highland Banana, is the largest species of banana and the tallest herbaceous plant in the world. Native to the high-altitude rainforests of New Guinea and Indonesia (specifically the Arfak Mountains of West Papua), it is an architectural marvel of the plant kingdom.
The plant can reach a staggering height of 15 to 20 meters(approx. 50–65 feet), with some reports claiming individuals up to 30 meters. The leaves are the largest of any banana species, reaching up to 5 meters in length and 1 meter in width. Because it is a highland species, it is highly sensitive to heatand typically will not survive in lowland tropical or continuously hot environments.
